Krumlov Castle

The Castle of Cesky Krumlov is the second biggest in Bohemia (after the Prague Castle). This jewel attracts visitors from all over the world. Bustling since medieval times, the town, after centuries of embellishment, is exquisitely beautiful. In 1302, the Rozmberk family inherited the castle and moved in, using it as their main residence for nearly 300 years. The golden coach is the most valuable exhibit at the Cesky Krumlov castle. The carriage is constructed from gilded walnut and gifts from Emperor Ferdinand III von Habsburg to Pope Urban VIII. Ceský Krumlov Castle preserves its Baroque theatre, built from 1680-82. With this original stage machinery, scenery and props it is among only a few such court theatres that still exist.

In winter time, when the "Upper Castle" is closed, we will visit the Krumlov "Lower Castle" and its museum instead. Visitors have a unique opportunity to look into the secrets of Castle depositories that recall the most important events related to Rosenberg, Eggenberg and Schwarzenberg Krumlov estate owners.

Culture in Cesky Krumlov: The 5-Petalled Rose Celebrations

The 5-Petalled Rose Celebrations, a three-day festival in mid-June, transform Cesky Krumlov into a Renaissance town once again. The festival harkens back to the time of the greatest development in Cesky Krumlov, when Vilém and Petr Vok from the House of Rosenberg reigned. Day and night, visitors are treated to concerts; dances; daredevil performances; duels; theatrical performances; arts and crafts; processions of noble ladies and gentlemen, knights, and jugglers.

Sights to see around Cesky Krumlov

On you wish we can also visit other sights on the way to Cesky Krumlov, e.g. the hisotrical square in Ceske Budejovice, the capital of southern Bohemia, or the Hluboka Castle (surcharge).

The city of Cesky Krumlov in the Southwest of the Czech Republic has preserved its medieval center as no other town in the region. For this reason it entered the UNESCO register of monuments of world significance in 1992. If you have time on your visit to the Czech Republic for only one excursion, consider going to Cesky Krumlov. One of Bohemia´s prettiest towns, Krumlov is a living gallery of elegant Renaissance-era buildings housing charming cafes, pubs, restaurants, shops, and galleries.
